Yoga Sutra of Patanajali 2.47 states  “tatah dvandvah anabhighatah”  From then on, the sadhaka is undisturbed by dualities.  In BKS Iyengar’s commentary of this sutra he elaborates saying “The effect of Asana is to put an end to the dualities or differentiation between the body, mind and soul. None of the pairs of opposites (joy/ sorrow) can exist for the sadhaka who is one with body, mind and soul.”


In this session we will practice a sequence of asanas designed by BKS Iyengar to develop this emotional stability.  The asanas when done with alignment and for sufficient timings will calm the mind, balance the intelligence of head and heart, stimulate positive thinking, bring quietness in the body and allow one to experience inner silence.

 

*Students should be free of any physical conditions for which inversions and backbends are contraindicated and currently practicing headstand, shoulderstand and backbends in order to attend this session.
